Growing up in Washington D.C was not far from his bithplace of Bowie, Maryland - but when he came into the world on August 8, 1976, his parents had to know there was something special about him. Sibling to Heather and Tyler (TJ), JC was not always the role model he is now. Unmotivated, but brilliant musically, his mother had to force him off the couch to get out the door. This trait remains today, and earned him the endearing nickname "Sleepy." One of those times, Mrs. Chasez got her son up and at em, and he accompanied a friend to audition for a Disney show...the Mickey Mouse Club. Picked from a gargantuan crowd and taped after ten hours of waiting for the casting director, young JC was cast. The irony is astounding, but fans are in favor of it! An athletic 5'11" with the electrifying blue eyes that make the "I Want You Back" video memorable, JC is a favorite among the ladies. Who could resist the chisled features and ever-changing-styled brown hair that highlights his cheshire grin? However, his photogenisis is not a main priority. A four year veteran of skits, songs, and dance numbers on Disney, JC was able to get a taste of recording via the Club's album "MMC" and various concerts that he participated in. He also stinted as the silly, but adorable surfer dude "Wipeout" Adams in MMC's spinoff "Emerald Cove." The last two years of Mickey Mouse Club are also the imfamous start of his friendship with a then adolescent tenor named Justin, which would go down in history. "Mr. Serious" as he is affectionately (and aptly) named by the guys, is very goal oriented regarding his musical career, but knows how to cut loose with the best of them. A huge sports buff, he enjoys viewing his hometown Washington Redskins play football and playing himself, and Michigan shooting college hoops. Throw in a pair of in-line skates, and JC will be blading until bed time. Speaking of which, he becomes the fairy-godmother of the guys when urging them to make like Cinderella and be in at a decent hour, to ensure high spirits and energy for the fans. His responsible attitude and driven work ethic have fueled N SYNC's success, and given him a lot of experience behind the scenes. In addition to playing guitar and piano, JC has been known to mix it up in the studio to enhance the music of his group. Swing is back, and Chasez makes it apparent. Those "little jazz ver-sions" that he likes to tinker with are a direct influence of his love of Billie Holliday and other bluesey jazz artists. Harry Connick Jr, eat your heart out! A religious guy too, JC thinks that a one-one-one with Jesus Christ would rock, because "It doesn't get bigger than that!" However, it's Meg Ryan and Harrison Ford that get him going onscreen (which explains his affection for the Indiana Jones trilogy) and a girl with natural looks off screen. Humor, genuine attitude and sensitivity make him melt, though a woman who can set an alarm clock would be a plus I'm assuming. :) (More to come later!)
